About us

Illawarra Communications was established in October 1964. As with many companies, we started as a small local enterprise from two men - Ron Baxter and Bill Norris - who recognised the need in Wollongong to offer same day 2-Way radio service and repairs. From those humble beginnings, we have come a long way. Today, Illawarra Communications has one of the largest private commercial radio and electronic workshops in the state, staffed by highly qualified tradesman and skilled engineers.

Illawarra Communications has a proud tradition of forward thinking and innovation. We have designed and developed underground mining communications and radio control systems in response to the needs of the mining industry. These systems have met with much success as over 40 have been approved and installed nationally and internationally since September 1980. These include systems at Gordonstone collieries in Central Queensland, Henty Gold mine in Tasmania and Huntley mine in New Zealand.

Illawarra Communications is now also well known for its dedication and service in the local Illawarra and Sydney area. We have based ourselves as a communications specialist ranging for full commercial set-ups down to the most humble domestic solution.

We look forward to the future and hope to fulfill the needs of our customers and all there requirements.
